Technical Manager, Water Security - Questionnaire evolution
Job Purpose and Background

As our new ‘Technical Manager, Water Security’ you will have the technical, scientific and analytical expertise to evolve CDP’s water questionnaire content and reporting guidance using best-practice standards and scientific benchmarks to measure companies’ progress against what needs to be done to ensure the transition to a water secure, net zero world. This is an exciting opportunity for a research-focused individual with experience in corporate sustainability performance to develop your knowledge of CDP disclosure and the subject matter expertise that supports it.
About the Questionnaire and Scoring Evolution (QSE) – ESG Disclosure Content Team
The QSE team is responsible for the development of CDP’s corporate questionnaires, reporting guidance and scoring methodology materials which provide environmental information to investors, customers and other data-users, and drive companies’ actions to catalyse the transition to a sustainable economy. .
Key responsibilities
To develop the CDP corporate water security questionnaire and reporting guidance content, and support colleagues across other environmental themes, such as climate change and forests. This includes:
- Ensuring that CDP’s water security questionnaire, reporting guidance and scoring methodology content requests relevant information to drive action on water security within corporates, is aligned with CDP’s disclosure principles as well as key corporate disclosure standards, frameworks and initiatives.
- Collaborating with the Disclosure Content teams and other teams to explore and identify key areas and priorities that will be incorporated into future CDP water security disclosure, in line with CDP’s 2025 strategy.
- Conducting desk-based research for these key areas and priorities, and translating them into indicators and metrics.
- Building and maintaining technical external relationships (with advisory
panels, reporting standards etc.) and representing CDP externally as a
water expert. - Providing subject matter expertise and analytical support across CDP’s broader activities related to water security and other environmental themes, including:
- contributing to projects (e.g., funded projects, publications, engagement events etc.).
- analyzing, mapping, and/or reviewing relevant external frameworks as part of CDP’s response to external consultations.
- supporting other teams within CDP to deliver CDP’s annual reporting cycle.
The precise description and nature of your job may vary from time to time, and you may be required to carry out other duties as necessary to meet business needs.
Required skills and experience:
- A degree level qualification in environmental science, engineering or sustainability related discipline (MSc degree preferred), ideally specializing in water management/corporate sustainability.
- At least three years of demonstrable experience (academic and/or professional) in a water security related role.
- Familiarity with corporate disclosure standards and initiatives (e.g., GRI, CEO Water mandate, TCFD, SBTN).
- Previous experience of researching and producing written outputs to an excellent standard (preferably for a corporate audience) and with a proven ability to pay attention to detail.
- At least three years of demonstrable experience managing projects.
- Evidence of qualitative and quantitative data analysis skills, and advanced Microsoft office skills, in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong communication skills, including a high standard of written English and the ability to present complex information in a simple and concise way;
- The ability to work effectively and efficiently with team members of different technical and cultural backgrounds.
Desired skills and experience
- Familiarity with CDP’s corporate disclosure framework.
- Work experience obtained ideally from within, or supporting corporates within one of CDP’s high impact water questionnaire sectors – Food Beverage & Tobacco, Electric Utilities, Chemicals or Mining
Role details
This is a full-time permanent role. The role will be based at CDP’s London office with options for remote/hybrid working and will report to the Senior Manager, Questionnaire & Scoring Evolution.
What we offer
Salary and benefits: £37,643-£39,000 with annual discretionary bonus (depending on organization performance), 30 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, generous non-contributory pension provision, life assurance, flexible working opportunities, and other benefits. There is a 6-month probationary period for this role.
