Job Purpose and Background in summary
CDP is seeking a highly motivated individual to work as a Capital Markets Senior Account Manager - Japan. to carry out our engagement with financial institutions including asset managers, asset owners and banks in Japan. This is an excellent opportunity to make an impact on how the financial ecosystem can respond to the key environmental challenges of climate change, deforestation and water security. The successful candidate will join a growing team of committed professionals working to embed ESG integration into mainstream financial analysis and investment processes.
Key Responsibilities:
◥ Build strong relationships with existing CDP Japan signatories, financial institutions and capital markets participants as well as identifying new opportunities to grow the signatory base – recording all activity in a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
◥ Speak on behalf of CDP Japan at public & media events – emphasizing the use-cases of CDP data and promoting banks program, private markets program, etc - networking wherever & whenever possible to build the profile and presence of CDP throughout Japan.
◥ Deliver on annual budget targets for revenue from signatory renewals & growth, data sales and expansion into new programs as the Japanese market develops in maturity.
◥ Lead the organization & execution of webinars and capacity-building events with major financial institutions and investors and raising the profile of CDP’s capital markets work across the financial sector.
◥ Utilize knowledge and understanding of sustainable finance to further engage the broader capital markets.
◥ Work with other teams in collaborative projects and activities such as the Non-Disclosure Campaign to ensure CDP delivers maximum impact.
◥ Lead engagement with CDP signatories on the core reported and modelled datasets, research offerings and in-house expertise at CDP.
◥ Engage in all of the above and further ad-hoc projects as necessary, in order to support taking sustainable action & ambition in Japan to a far greater level than is currently practiced.
◥ Manage a small team (at the outset 1 headcount) to deliver effectively on the above.
Required skills and experience:
◥ Excellent English and Japanese language fluency (both verbal and written).
◥ Strong analytical skills, including experience in large amounts of quantitative and qualitative data, and producing powerful, insightful & concise presentations.
◥ Keen interest in corporate sustainability, awareness of global environmental reporting developments (e.g. ISSB, TNFD, Transition Planning) and capital markets developments (e.g. GFANZ, NZAM) and Southeast Asian environmental reporting and regulatory trends.
◥ 10 to 15 years+ of work experience in financial services, ideally in an external-facing role and with knowledge or exposure to corporate sustainability issues. Career changers who can demonstrate relevant and tangible efforts to enter the field are also welcome to apply.
◥ Proven track record of proactively and independently supporting clients or colleagues in work which requires a high level of planning, deep analysis, self-organization and attention to detail.
◥ Good working knowledge of the Microsoft office software suite, especially Excel. Highly analytical approach able to navigate complex datasets and capital market nuances.
◥ Must have permanent residency in Japan, we cannot sponsor for this role.
Desired skills and experience:
◥ Masters or Bachelors degree in environmental or sustainability-related topics e.g. Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, Ecology, Sustainability and Business and/or relevant finance or quantitative certifications.
◥ Proven track record in sales, external client management or stakeholder engagement. Familiarity with Client Relationship Management systems.
◥ A clear understanding of the aims, objectives and processes of CDP and a strong conviction about CDP’s theory of change. An understanding of capital markets and the investment management industry with a passion for sustainable investment.
